Welcome to my site, my plan is to use this as an experimental hub trying out a few ideas over the next 12 months as well as recording some of my adventures in 2018 as well as summarising some of my previous adventures. The idea is to grow the site naturally and see how it evolves.
About Me:
Having left Plymouth University in 2001 I embarked on a career as a Naval Architect. The main part of my career has been working in the defence sector commissioning and supporting Royal Fleet Auxiliary and Royal Navy ships. As with most big ship Naval Architects my escapism is in small boats. Having grown up on the South Coast of the U.K. and been around boats since being small it is no surprise that I now have a collection of little boats and spend a lot of time looking after them or sailing them. On dry land I am a keen cyclist and hill walker, tales of some of my dry land adventures are featured on the site.
The doodle way of life:
The doodle lifestyle has come about through years of planning weekend adventures in the the South West Of England, some of these have been thwarted by the weather and have caused major changes in plans, for example a five day sailing cruise turned into a 300 mile round trip to undertake a three day mountain bike trip on Dartmoor. So after reading The Ascent Of Rum Doodle by W. E. Bowman the phrase “to doodle” was born. Essentially “to doodle” is to have a vague plan of what you want to do but look forward to the deviations that the adventure will bring after all the definition of adventure is an activity that is unusual, exciting, daring and perhaps unplanned. Over the years this has seen such doodles as 6 weeks round Europe in a mini, several long distance walks in the U.K. the latest being the South West Coast Path in sections, plenty of small sailing jaunts and the biggest doodle yet which will be setting off across the pond in the autumn of 2018.
