First blog post

This is the excerpt for your very first post.

So I have finally got round to creating my blog, a bit late to the blogging game but I thought since 2018 is set to be a busy and adventurous year I thought a blog would be a good way to record the events.

The aim of the blog will be to follow my adventures on S/V Gitana as we prepare to sail her across the Atlantic and beyond in the autumn of 2018. The project started back in the summer of 2016 when sailing our Seawolf 26 Raoul Devos back from Plymouth Race Week. We had had one of the finest weather weeks of that summer and as we returned to Seaton Bay James had reacquainted himself with the cruising bug. I initially thought nothing of it until a couple of days later he was emailing me boat details and asking how we could convert them to suit our needs. A month or so later James had brought a Gitana 43 with a view of refitting over the winter and entering the 2017 Atlantic Rally for Cruisers. Unfortunately the refit over ran and summer cruising plans were thwarted by weather and transport issues induced by the VW emissions crisis (more about that later). Rather than rushing to prepare we gave ourselves a further 12 months to prepare.

So what follows will be my thoughts and stories of the adventure as it develops throughout 2018, at present the closing cold few weeks of 2017 sees the winter maintenance plan kick in and despite the short day’s progress is being made.
